News bulletin: New blade shape promises extra efficiency – 10 November 2008

The new, curved blades perform even more efficiently in low wind speeds than our previous design. In fact, we estimate that the increase in performance could be as much as 20%.

Made from fibreglass, the new blades are strong, durable and relatively lightweight. Luethi Enterprises Ltd has applied for a global patent to protect the design.

The new blades are aesthetically pleasing - as well as extremely efficient.

The blades are curved on both planes.

Movie clip: New blade design – 10 November 2008

This movie clip shows just how much more efficient the new blades are compared to the previous design. The wind speed was very low when we took this movie: just 1.7 m/s! An electrical current was being generated, even at that low speed.

The motion is converted into power by a bespoke generator designed and manufactured solely for Luethi Enterprises Ltd by Lafert Motors. It's designed to give 1.5kW of power. The generator's performance is being monitored: testing will identify suitability for different sites.

News bulletin: Field testing begins at SEEDA site November 2008

The Silent Wind Turbine is being tested at Chatham Maritime thanks to SEEDA, the South East England Development Agency, who granted permission for land next to the Historic Dockyard to be used for seven months free of charge.

This field testing programme will allow Luethi Enterprises to test and observe the wind turbine’s performance.

News bulletin: Prototype erected by M1 motorway for testing – 23 October 2008

David Webster Limited (DW) is trialling the prototype silent wind turbine alongside the M1: one of the UK's busiest motorways. DW is looking for a renewable energy solution to provide power for motorway streetlights.

News bulletin: SEEDA grant awarded – 21 April 2008

The South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) awarded Luethi Enterprises a grant for research and development work. This will finance the creation of final prototypes and complete field trials of the silent wind turbine.
